Barbara Knox

Barbara Knox MBE , is a British actress, known for her portrayal of Rita Tanner in the television soap opera Coronation Street. She appeared for one episode as Rita in 1964, before becoming a regular cast member from 1972 onwards. Knox has currently played the role of Rita foryears.

Knox was born Barbara Brothwood in Oldham, Lancashire. Her mother worked in a mill while her father was a moulder at Platts Foundry, and later a fireman.
